Suzumoto Miyu put Keyakitte, Kakenai? co-host Sawabe Yuu in his place in this weekend's KeyaKake with a
retort that may become her most famous saying.
The members wrote down
what their goal for the year was. Miyu, for the second year in a row,
wrote "beauty."
Co-host Sawabe said: "Deja vu! Beauty!"
Suzumoto: "It's
the same goal, but there are areas in which I still feel I am lacking."
Sawabe: "Where, to begin with, do you want to be more
beautiful?"
Suzumoto: "Inside and outside."
Sawabe: "Ah. Everywhere. But
you're quite beautiful already."
Suzumoto (here it comes): "I don't think you know anything about me." The room exploded in laughter. Comments described it as "delivering a finishing blow."
Here it is in video:
Miyu went through a down period in the middle of last year, but later in the year -- perhaps not coincidentally after she returned to the senbatsu's front line -- she seemed to blossom, both personally and professionally.
Comments on 2channel and in Japanese on Twitter have turned 180 degrees from attitudes that were rather negative about her all the way from the beginning of K46 up until the fall, to praise being heaped on her for her beauty and her dancing.
And now her personality is coming out, to people's delight. That may have begun when she was caught on hidden camera acting the clown in the dressing room. Here's that sequence, from the September 9 Keyakakitte:
As I described at the time in a blog post, the chestnut-loving Miyu delights in the chestnut sweets brought in by Hirate Yurina, wanders around making silly jokes, then leaves with the statement: "The idiot goes home." Coupled with the long-delayed recognition of her beauty and talent, that revelation of her approachability seems to have turned around the opinions of a lot of Japanese fans.
