Today, 2018 is coming to an end!!!!

I wonder what kind of New Year's everyone is having...

Every year, I eat sukiyaki
I love sukiyaki, lol 


What a joy it is to fill myself with it




At New Year's, I enjoy making osechi, too

What will I try, I wonder.

Ah! Brocade eggs!

So many things happened this year, too.


Budoukan leaves the deepest impression

Starting with Budoukan 3 Days,
Then the live with Kyary Pamyu-Pamyu-san,
And the three days of Hiragana Christmas.

Just this year, seven days standing on stage at Budoukan...
It's like a dream. What an honour.

Our first album, stage plays, so many things in this one year!

And I got so much support this year,
Giving me such power.
Truly, thank you so much!

It's because you are all there that I can give it my all


Please treat me well in 2019, too!

What a year for Memi. She didn't mention spending last January recovering from her broken wrist. Nor did she directly mention her duet with Mirei on the album, or her singing and acting on stage as the star of Magia Record. And neither she nor anyone else has mentioned how prominent she has become in the latter part of the year, as part of a front trio in Joyful Love, with Nao-chan and Miho. Or the way she has emerged as the burikko queen on Hiragana Oshi. She really seems to have blossomed this year: singing and dancing, acting on stage, and becoming a prominent variety performer.

A post in her support thread on 5channel puts it this way:

"...burikko, pussy-cat, short-distance runner, doll, good English pronunciation, Lolita fashion, otaku, refusing to lose, twintails, hard work and perseverance, love for sea creatures, Nagano, friends with Techi and Neru, thighs, her famous papa, her acting ability....

Right now, she is producing herself skillfully.
Gaining more and more aspects to her character seems better than stagnating or straying off-course.
Her hand has more and more cards to play."

There may be a problem in having so many aspects to her image, especially since none of them has so far given her the enormous popularity she deserves. People may not have a clear image to grasp hold of. But the burikko image she has lately been helped to adopt does seem to be striking a chord with fans. We'll see where things go this year. I myself love the way she can stare into the camera and create a direct connection with the viewer. She can seem as if she is right there. And her wise little semi-ironic smile (see last photo) is wonderful.

Memi loves to perform on stage with the group, but acting now seems another thing she loves. She proved in Magia Record that she can star in a stage musical. She proved there and in Tricycle (Sanrinsha) with Mirei that she can really sing. I expect her to keep advancing on these two tracks. I would love to see her acting in a TV drama.

We'll see if that's where her recent pairing with Matsuda Konoka leads. Images of them as double centres in Bokutachi wa Tsukiatteiru on stage at Budoukan make me think of Takarazuka, lol: the princess and her prince.

"Brocade eggs" (錦卵 nishiki tamago) is a sweet and colorful egg dish that is part of osechi, the special foods made at New Year's.

Memi lol'd when she said she liked sukiyaki because she made a pun when she said it: すき焼き好きやきー笑 sukiyaki suki ya ki.
